alexander apostol
another argentinian photographer which work i really like is pablo cabado. his images explore space and its connection to culture and people. this series, 37°57'35.35"S 57°34'49.34"W is particularly sublime and full of strangeness.
from his statement:
This portrait of a derelict amusement park in Argentina uncovers the lives that remain in the shards of collapsed rides and rusting colors. Pablo Cabado portraits here with his large format camera, the grim reality of mysterious people and animals living on the edge with a poetic eye, gently shedding light on varied life-forces gone awry. Captured here is what is left of entertainment abandoned over ten years ago.

santiago porter

richard gilles
richard gilles uses the panoramic format to present us with sites that are sharp observations of our contemporary world. in his own words:
"There is a phenomenon in our society that for the most part goes unnoticed. Down a side-road, to a dead-end in a decaying industrial section of the city is but one of the places you will discover, often hidden, the almost home-less".
"In our seemly abundant society, the almost home-less find themselves, living in vehicles- often on public streets- often not. Do these voyagers have a destination or is it a perpetual, nomadic journey? Has their vehicle become a substitute for a fixed address or a tool for a pilgrimage? Is there meaning to their movement? Almost Home-Less is my photographic exploration of this phenomenon. My intention is not to provide the viewer with answers, but for the images to serve as catalyst for questions, investigation and awareness".

the portland grid project
ann kendellen
i love this project. and i love portland! ja.
christopher rauschenberg
"We are using a map of Portland divided into grid squares a mile and a half on a side. Each month all of us photograph the same randomly picked square, using a variety of films and formats. At the end of the month, we meet to look at everyone's photos. We estimate that as of this date we have created a complex, detailed urban portrait, consisting of about 20,000 images of Portland, its land forms, architecture, people, residential neighborhoods, industrial sites, waterways, parks, and sometimes just a shadow or the look of fallen leaves on a newly mowed lawn".

robbie mcclaran
for sure one of the best things going on at the photolucida reviews are the roving reviews, where there is no time limit and specially you get to talk openly about your vision and work. one of my best encounters was with photographer robbie mcclaran, which also gave a nice lunch time chat about his work. it is not always the case that your peers honestly share their thoughts on work, but it felt for me that robbie and many of the people photolucida invited where doing so. check out his projects here. i specially like the ordinary people series. to me it somewhat parallels joel sternfelds work in this site.
